Event Description
Cruise-In: A more laid back type of event. You just drive your vehicle in and park in the designated area. There is no fee to park and show your vehicle. Parking is by arrival time. Most of the time there are no trophies given. Sometimes there is only one award Best of Show, performed by established judges, often members of the sponsoring organization or People’s Choice, voted on by all attendees. There is sometimes music and raffles. Everybody just strolls around to see the other vehicles on display and chat for a while. A cruise-in can be a great place to learn about the pitfalls and advantages of owning a particular year, make and model of vehicle. Owners look forward to sharing details about their vehicle and how difficult, easy or expensive the restoration was. Most of the time a cruise-in is held near or in the parking lot of a local Restaurant, Ice Cream Shop or Business, that way the family can eat while they are there enjoying the vehicles on display. Cruise-in’s typically only last 2–4 hours. If you are new to the hobby, a cruise-in is probably the best place to show your vehicle for the first time.
Car Show: Typically are a lot larger than a cruise-in. There is usually an entry fee to show your vehicle, and they usually judge the vehicles in some type of classes. Once you arrive at the event, car show staff will direct you to the proper parking area and will separate you by the class in which you are entering. Participants will arrive early to get their vehicle registered and then go on to detailing their vehicle for judging. Car show judging can be a little more involved than cruise-in judging, and the judges usually look more closely at the little details. Correctness, quality of interior, exterior and engine bay: These are all important when differentiating a class winner. Class judging rules can be stringent. A car show will typically last 5–8 hours, Some could be multi-day. The registration ends and judging begins at most shows between 11:00am and 1:00 pm. This is set by the hosting organization. Door prizes, giveaways, and raffles are common. It is typical for car shows to have entertainment and vendors. Certain car shows are themed by make, model or national origin.
Cruise/Caravan/Convoy: A Cruise is a social activity that consists of driving a vehicle. Cruising is distinguished from regular driving by the social and recreational nature of the activity. Cruisers will gather in parking lots and other places to meetup. Then travel a predetermined route together, creating a procession and ending at the chosen destination. Usually consisting of Club/Organization members and invited guest.
Alternative: Cruise the strip - you drive multiple times on one street or route.
Club/Organization Outing and Gathering: A short journey to meetup at a predetermined place, away from the organization's usual meeting place, usually a leisure activity, a place of interest or educational. Usually consisting of Club/Organization members and invited guest.
Swap Meet: A gathering at which enthusiasts or collectors buy, sell, or trade used or new old stock items of common interest.
Tech. Session: A gathering to learn more about their vehicle(s), to gain or broaden a practical skill in their automotive knowledge or to assist in auto repair, maintenance, restoration and more. For those who have an interest in Antique and Classic VW's.
Club/Organization Meeting: Club/Organization meetings are informal meetings or social gatherings of members and non-members of the organization. Meetings are for the purpose of socializing, interacting, celebrating, or engaging in shared activities with opportunities to connect, communicate, and enjoy each other’s company with people who have a similar interest in Antique and Classic VW's. They are not formal meetings for the purposes of the organization's governing, management strategic planning.
BOD Meeting: A BOD meeting or an executive session is a formal meeting of the Board of Directors for the purposes of discussing the organization's governance, management, and strategic planning. So that the organization can archive its goals and mission. A required minimum number of directors must be present before the board may conduct business to hear, discuss, or deliberate upon any item of business that is within the authority of the board. Meeting must be In Person or Virtual by telephone or video conference.
